CD Redesign

For my front cover panels and disk, I illustrated my images and used Photoshop to apply additional textures and effects to create a more grunge aesthetic.

MOODBOARD

My moodboard contains images I found that convey the feelings and aesthetics of my overall design. I created this during my ideation phase, and after I made my moodboard, I began sketching my rough designs. I wanted to lean into an apocalyptic theme inspired by Metallica's song "The Four Horsemen," which became the anthem of the CD redesign.

SKETCH

During my sketching phase, I typically jump right in with a pen or marker because it prevents me from spending too much time on finalizing rough details. When I'm at this stage, I want to work quickly to get my idea on paper so I can better visualize what my final design will look like. I also like to make small notes for myself to refer to once I begin working on my design in a digital space.

Above are flat images of my front, spine, and back covers. In my final design, I chose a red-and-brown monochromatic color scheme to help everything look cohesive, given my varied imagery. Aside from Metallica's logo, I used only two fonts to avoid overwhelming the viewer. I tried to focus on dynamic layouts for my typography to manage my space better. I purposely chose not to have much negative space to make the covers appear more chaotic.

For my interior spread, I decided to take a different approach, using photographs rather than illustrations to create contrast. I did, however, create doodles and scribbled text over the images to create a sense of chaos once again. I wanted brief apocalyptic blurbs on the inner spread because it makes me think of people writing messages on signs for others in shows such as The Walking Dead.
